Nightowl Servers uses Cloudflare*TM as our DNS provider which allows us to bake in DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection at the initial connection level. This means that when one joins a server using any method other than a normal IP (Internet Protocol) connection, the information is encrypted over Cloudflare’s network. This helps protect all users from being disconnected should a DDOS attack occur.
All operations are hosted in docker containers or the systems themselves, and each container is encrypted and can only be accessed individually. This makes any attacks on multiple instances significantly more tedious for the hacker. Most other Game Server Providers use something called a null route. Should a DDOS attack occur on a server protected by a null route, the server itself would grind to a halt as the offensive traffic was redirected away from vital processes. Here at Nightowl Servers, should such an attack occur, the only thing that customers would notice would be a small hitch in server performance.
Our servers use Linux, rather than Windows, as their operating system. This makes Night Owl Servers immune to security flaws commonly found in Windows systems. These include bugs, hacks, exploits, viruses, worms, forced restarts, and other attack vectors. Using Linux allows Nightowl Servers to be as efficient as possible and offer the best possible service to customers.
Nightowl Server’s container virtualization means that if someone tries to exploit another customer’s server on the same stack, only their server will be affected. No other servers in the stack will be affected, and no personal data can be accessed. This allows Nightowl Servers to “throw away” the old container and spin up a new one almost instantaneously with minimal down time for customers. This compartmentalization of damage makes Nightowl Servers fundamentally secure and stable, particularly for communities using multiple servers simultaneously.
Most Game Service Providers use a system of “slots” to dictate what a customer purchases when looking to rent a server. This is an arbitrary, outdated system that does not give the customer any indication of how the server will actually run once purchased. Here at Nightowl Servers, we give each customer the ability to see and set the resources allocated to their server before paying. When you order a server from Nightowl Servers, you are reserving an actual piece of hardware on a server rack, rather than a slot on an overcrowded server. With the versatile scalability of our container virtualization, customers can expect consistent server performance at the exact levels they pay for.
Nightowl Servers is comprised of three friends who have worked in the Game Service Provider (GSP) industry for many years. We have seen how grotesquely exploitative and inefficient our competitors have become, and decided to do something about it. That something is Nightowl Servers.
Another server host would use an open, bare metal environment for their basic servers, leading to servers competing with each other for the same hardware resources, resulting in huge performance drops for all active customers regardless of what specifications they paid for. On top of this, the server interfaces provided to customers that should allow for a degree of control over the performance they are paying for are often neglected or underdeveloped. Overall, these factors tend to frustrate customers, as their gaming experience becomes slow, unresponsive and unreliable, and help is often not readily available.
Nightowl Servers differs from the rest. While we are a small company, we offer full transparency, with modern, up-to-date server hosting using a custom crafted business model that puts the customer first. Our docker container system allows us to be cheaper, faster, and more reliable than the standard Game Service Provider, as our servers never bog down over strained computing resources and have redundant safeties to prevent extensive damage from targeted attacks. We are fully self-funded without the need to create shady practices that exploit our own customer base. To that end, we vow never to use user data for anything but internal analytics, and will never, ever sell it to a 3rd party. We founded this company to appose such practices, and could not maintain our integrity as conscientious service providers if we did.
Nightowl Servers software is based on as much open source software as could be feasibly used.
